Random thoughts and things heard at Stake Conference

Thoughts for ministering from Elder McKay

In three words:  Just Show Up

In four words:  Give Help When Needed

In five words:  Bring The Spirit With You

In six words:  Be A Blessing In Their Lives

Home is more than four walls and a front door

     It’s where my parents were

It’s where my wife and children are

     It’s where my God is

Elder McKay: “Some believe in the idea of God but not God Himself. To believe in God is to know that all the rules will be fair and that there will be wonderful surprises. We are like small smooth stones, warm and cradled and sure. No matter what happens He will not let go.”

Elder McKay: “Revelation is not something grand and overwhelming. It is a soft and quiet understanding. It comes in many ways, feelings, thoughts, angels, dreams and small miracles. Angels are sometimes family members who have passed on. It is the responsibility of family members on either side of the vail for the welfare of the family”.

I had two angels visit me. My mother when I was eleven the night she passed away. She was sitting in a rocking chair at the foot of my bed and said “don’t worry about me Richard I am fine”. And my dad in a dream. I was an adult in the home where I grew up. I was just walking out the door to the backyard and dad was on the steps, I said come on in and he said “I can’t I just wanted to see how your doing with not drinking caffeine”.  I have since avoided caffeinated drinks. I tapered off over time and now am caffeine free.

I used to wonder what my children would be like when they grew up. What will they do, who will they touch.  They have all turned out wonderful and have been an influence for good in the lives of others. They have participated in life, joy, sadness, success, setbacks, things that build character. They are friends with each other and reflect the light of Christ to those around them. And their children, our grandchildren follow in their footsteps. I can’t imagine life without them, we love them with all our hearts.

Who would have thought?  A farm boy from Michigan and a farm girl from California could have raised all these wonderful, smart, successful people.

     We are so grateful!

Not deep thoughts just things that impressed me.

  1. The older I get, and the more I watch people around me, the more I realize how extraordinarily blessed I am to have the parents and siblings that I have. All that gratitude? Right back at you, Dad. We wouldn't be who we are without the guidance, counsel, and love from you and Mom.
